Gail's Vision for Lone Star College System
The greatest challenge facing Lone Start College System is explosive
growth during economic uncertainty. More students are attending because of
convenience, economic necessity and the opportunity for training and education
which leads to employment. From Fall 2007 to Fall 2009, enrollment
exploded from 47,000 to 62,000. Lone Star Community College
covers an area which currently has almost 1.2 million residents and is predicted
to grow rapidly in the near future. The growth of the community and financial
necessity will accelerate the need for more students to take their lower level
courses at Lone Star College.

The basic purpose of community college is to provide
excellent education whill will either prepare them for a higher level courses or
lead to employment. Every program and course of study must be evaluated
according to the needs of the students and the business community while
balancing those needs with the economic resources.
The current cooperative program between local business and LSCSS to provide
trained applicants and further training for employees must be enlarged to
include more businesses.
An unparalleled opportunity exists with the purchase of the HP buildings to
create University Park which will house a satellite campus as well as a
cooperative program with 4-year universities similar to University Center.
This will enable more of our local students to get a 4-year degree without
having to travel. The LSCS board must focus their attention on building
relationships and cooperations with many universities to make our studetns and
our community's dreams come true. Only 4 universities have currently
signed agreements and many more are needed by Fall 2010. The community has reason to be proud of what the Lone Star College System has
already accomplished and about the future of LSCS. I will bring fiscal conservative principles to bear on
the expenditures of funds yet making sure the needs of the students and the
community are met. I look forward to serving our community by serving on the
Board of Trustees of the Lone Star Community College.
